Endoscopic mucosal resection
(EMR) and endoscopic sub-mucosal dissection (ESD) are rapidly emerging techniques for
the treatment of early gastrointestinal neoplasia. They can be used for
a wide range of purposes including the removal of
1) High grade dysplasia within
2) Early gastric cancers and submucosal
3) Duodenal adenomas
4) Colonic adenomas
LST resections are complex and time consuming. It is
important therefore that before undertaking this kind of work that the lesions are carefully assessed and the
appropriate technique selected.
This website aims to explore the common indications
for EMR and ESD and demonstrate the techniques through videos of actual endoscopic procedures.
There are also pages explaining the requirements of the pathologist
and the challenges faced in reporting on the specimens produced by these techniques.
